Melva Jean Watkins-Salyer

Melva Jean Minix Watkins-Salyer, age 75, a resident of Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Saint Joseph Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Mrs. Salyer was born January 27, 1937, in Carver, Kentucky the daughter of the late Leander and Carrie Caudill Minix. Also proceeding in death is her former husband, John Clay Watkins; daughter, Tammy Sue Watkins Hammond, and sisters, Mary Rose Marshall and Carol Sue Gollhofer. Mrs. Salyer was a homemaker and a member of the Tip Top United Baptist Church. Those left to mourn includes husband, Wisemond "Blue" Salyer of Salyersville, Kentucky, daughters, Vicky Bloomfield of Salyersville, Kentucky, Shelia Allen of North Judson, Indiana, Sandra Smith of Denham, Indiana, step-daughters, Linda Marlette of Ashville, Alabama, Ruth Salyer of Howell, Michigan, Dottie Salyer of Stockbridge, Michigan, Kimberly Salyer of Lancing, Michigan, Betsy Diffenball of Stockbridge, Michigan, sons, Jimmy Watkins, Jackie Watkins, Timothy Watkins all of Salyersville, Kentucky, step-sons, Wisemond Lee Salyer of Jackson, Michigan, Dwayne Salyer of Jackson, Michigan, sisters, Ailene Push of Royalton, Kentucky, Beulah Redlin of Knox, Indiana, Janice Geller of Knox, Indiana, Vonda Reed of Knox, Indiana, Donna Sowards of North Judson, Indiana, Dianna Vires of North Judson, Indiana, and brothers, Parnell Minix of Knox, Indiana, and Gary Minix of North Judson, Indiana. Also, surviving are fifty-one grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who love and miss her. Funeral services for Melva Jean Salyer will be conducted Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky. Comforting words will be given by clergy Larry Williams and Delbert Porter. Burial will follow the service in the Cleve Bailey Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. The family will welcome friends Monday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and anytime Wednesday prior to the funeral service. In leau of flowers the family has asked to make contributions to the Melva Jean Salyer Memorial Fund located at the funeral home. The arrangements are under the direction of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky.
