Richard Lee Smithers

April 20, 1932 - February 10, 2015

Richard Lee Smithers, age 82, a resident of Falcon Road in Salyersville, Kentucky; passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Mr. Smithers was born April 20, 1932 in Jamestown, Tennessee the son of the late Charlie and Della Brassfield Smithers. Also, proceeding in death is his wife, Jolene Adkins Smithers; son, Danny Lee Smithers; and brothers, James Smithers, Raymond Smithers, Ernie Smithers, and August Smithers. Mr. Smithers was employed by the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio as maintenance leader until his retirement. He was a member of the Christian faith. Those left to mourn include daughter, Angela Slusher and husband Doug of Salyersville, Kentucky; sons, Eddie Dean Smithers and wife Kathy of Salyersville, Kentucky, Jeffery Cliff Smithers and wife Debbie of Cave Run, Kentucky, Lonnie Ray Smithers and wife Maggie of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Mary Sue Smithers of Texas; brothers, Lonnie Smithers of Georgia, David Smithers of Florida, and Charles Smithers of Ohio. Also, left to mourn are ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, a host of family and friends who love and miss him. Funeral services Richard Lee Smithers will be conducted Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM here from the chapel of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky. Interment will follow in the Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery in Staffordsville, Kentucky. The family will welcome friends Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 6:00 PM till 10:00 PM and anytime prior to the funeral service Friday.
